WampServer

I just installed WAMP Server a little while ago and I went to go to PHPMyAdmin (PMA) to create a database to install WordPress. However, I immediately got the following error.

#2003 - Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

I have used WAMP before and have never had a problem like this (even on the same computer that I am using now). Oddly, I also tried using XAMPP Lite and PMA had the same error there. What could be the issue? Please help. Thanks!

you have the conflicts, so uninstall all wamp, xampp, remove their folders, search and delete any my.ini, httpd.conf, and php.ini files, also run regedit to search and delete any wampapache, wampmysql as well as xampp's registries, restart pc, reinstall wamp

yep, seriously and not to be offense but it seems xampp intended to do this so its users have hard time to install any other apache server, no matter it's standalone or package, after using xampp

btw, before trying to do as suggested above, you can try to search and delete any my.ini file outside wamp folder then restart wamp

ok, thanks. But unless xampp is part of something else I might have installed, it shouldn't be on my system, never heard of it.

I have already searched my entire system for my.ini, the only one found was in wamp

I will go ahead shortly with the uninstall/reinstall as above to see if it is a fix, unless I see additional ideas here.

oh, and don't worry about being offensive, this is a great help forum, I am old enough to take it ;=)

when I test port 80, it is being used by Apache and php, should mysql also be listed?

And my wamp icon is 2/3 yellow, 1/3 white, shows as "online"

I have tried restart all services, and mysql>service>start/resume service
also:
apache>service>restart service (1/3 red, 2/3white, then eventually 2/3 yellow


localhost loads the wampserver homepage showing apache, php and mysql versions

phpinfo() works

I have wordpress loaded and it shows in my projects, but is requesting wp-config, which I can tackle after this problem.

I am running xp pro with firefox 3.6

Sorry to be a pain, thanks for the help

it seems your mysql is not working, but the answer is not a good practice for most wamp newbies, so I sent you a pm instead

How can I solve my this problem

stop working after 2yrs, it sounds like either other db server of firewall/antivirus' auto update block it
