Does anyone use WAMP in a production environment?

Is it a good or bad idea? Why or why not?

Thanks for any info!

So glad you posted this! I was just looking for a simple solution to run a single apache/mysql application. I wont be working with either for dev, but I found a great open source app that I want to run for my organisation.

as long as you dont have sensitive information such as credit cards, social #, so on, it should be ok, just like my personal site here

Why not? If there's an SSL cert? Please explain why that's not a good idea...

Is it because MySQL isn't secure, or PHP...? It's somewhat obvious that it's ok for a personal site like you said, but my question is about production environments, not personal websites.

If anyone knows some reasons why it should not be used, please discuss - I'm trying to learn.

For instance, is there much of a difference between installing WAMP, and installing each thing seperately?

Thanks!

no its the same..

but a regaular pc is not a server... in the general sense..

Id say there is no issues as long as your router has a good firewall. but always check ur logs on ur router..

Port Scanning etc can shoot up when u have a webserver installed

I suppose my version of the question is: Is WAMP going to provide me a fully functional stable Apache and MySQL environment to run my app in? It's a web based tracking system that will operate only within the confines of my domain.

let me rephrase it winking smiley
if using wamp w/o any modifications, you should use for sites that does NOT contain sensitive information; however, if want to use w/ sensitive info sites, you have to do a lot of secure setup and settings and ssl is just a step among those

to setup ssl, follow this
