Hey there,

We've been trying to isolate this issue for over a week now and just can't seem to nail it.

Whenever we issue a mysql_connect or mssql_connect to an EXTERNAL database, it hangs and then times out. We're pretty certain the remote servers are available to receive the connection (it would likely time out immediately if that failed).

We have ensured ports 1433 and 3306 are open, disabled windows firewall and mcaffee and even packet sniffer on the router, which doesn't see an attempt.

So, we're not sure what could be causing this - could permissions be preventing these connections from going outside of the box?

but are you sure that external db already setup to allow remote access???
