I'm currently running 5 small applications under one wampserver. I'm quite confused with performance. Please suggest me which environment among these two are better. I know there are better choices, unfortunately my resources are limited.

Environment 1:

OS : Windows Server 2003 R2 Stnd Ed SP2
Computer : Intel core 2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86 GHZ , 2.48 GB Ram

Environment 2:

OS: Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2
Computer : Intel Xeon CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHZ 2.00GHZ , 3gb Ram

The five applications include joomla and livezilla. All of them are accessible via intranet only. Maximum no.of users 50. Max no of users at an instance 20.

6300 is better than 5405 unless you overlock it; also win server 2k3 is running better than xp

yfastud & stevenmartin99 ,

Thanks for your replies. Currently i'm using environment 1. The access from client machines is really slow.

And I always had question about running server 2k3 on a client machine environment. I some how feel, to get best out of server 2k3 you gotta go with Server machines.

on the other hand, I thought environment 2 is better than 1 because of 2x2.0 ghz.

I also came to know that for server 2k3 I need to buy Client access license. I have 50 users and I need at least 25 CAL. That's turning out to be expensive. So some how I'm more inclined towards #2. But, still want to take your feedback.

Nope I'm not using IIS. Thanks for clearing regarding CAL.

Yes, that's true. I wanna install server 2003 on #2. But we have already purchased xp pro.

Is it possible to exchange the OS of two machines ? I mean install xp in #1 and server 2003 in #2 with same license keys ?

as long as only 1 license for 1 pc; however, you have to reformat hd and reinstall os and all setups and settings since it will not work if you just move hd unless both pc have same mobo

pc 2 is better .. the specs are nearly identical. but pc is a server. and is very heavy with services running sometimes..

have a look how many services are running on each.. RAM is king when it comes to a fast pc also
