Can't connect to MS SQL

Hi all,
first question, after fighting a couple of days with this. I've installed the latest driver of MS for PHP, modify the php.ini file, I can see the extension (php_sqlsrv_53.ts.dll) but if I try a simple connect I get a message Call to undefined function mssql_connect().
The version of PHP is 5.3, I tried copying ntwdblib.dll to System32 folder, I mean, all the things that I could find. What else am I missing?
