inactive php_mysql

I could not see php_mysql in phpinfo(). So I did what I was advised last time: deleted php.ini in the Apache bin directory and edited phpForApache.ini in the php folder instead and unset extensions php_mysqli.dll and php_mysql.dll. After restarting WAMP I manually set both extensions back but nothing happened: php_mysql is still not available. This procedure worked for me last summer but not now. Am I doing anything wrong? (I prefer not to move anything to Windows directory.)
