Hi I am using WAMP for the first time on windows 7 ultimate, and am having trouble accessing phpmyadmin and localhost. when I try access phpmyadmin I get the error ""FORBIDDEN You don't have permission to access /phpmyadmin/ on this server"" which I think is a firewall problem in either my router or in my OS, but am not sure, how to allow phpmyadmin through windows firewall, as for my router I have http & https open, which normally works for my linux LAMP server, but its not for WAMP.

And with localhost I get the error ""The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.""
I'm not how how to resolve these issues, and was hoping I could get some help pls. I disabled my estnod32 but it didn't make a difference and was hoping I could get some other advice pls...

ok I am able to access phpmyadmin and localhost (which i just realized its the Server Configuration page)
I was able to access them by using the ip 127.0.0.1, but what I dnt get is how come when I try access them via the taskbar instead of going to that IP, it tries going to [localhost.com] which then redirects to [www.localhost.com] thus giving me the error "The connection was reset... try again" and when I tried manually entering my ip I would get the forbidden error, do I need to edit my host file to point to my IP, Im not too sure how this all works on windows as I normally use linux when it comes to webservers..

any help would greatly be appreciated...

also I noticed I was loged straight into phpmyadmin, Im going to try search and see how I can fix that, but wouldnt mind advice on that too.. lol

thanks

edit c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

make sure it has

127.0.0.01 localhost

make sure it does NOT have

::localhost

Save and try again

THANK YOU GUYS, ALL IS WORKING PERFECTLY ... NOW I CAN MOVE ONTO FINISHING MY SITE smiling smiley

Just a quick question, my site has an index.php page which over writes the default wamp index config page.
I tried moving it to a folder inside the www folder but then the page becomes inaccessible, and so far the only way I can reach wamp config page is if I leave it directly in the www folder, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this issue, without changing my websites index page...

thanks again for all the help setting up wamp smiling smiley

oh ok so I have to create a folder in my wamp/www directory.

and since its only 1 site i will be hosting I was hoping to have the site directly in the www folder so that when anyone visits my site, they can just use the url, without having to use the folder extension..

lets say my domain name is
www.wampwebsite.com
atm the moment when someone visits my site they have to type the following address,
http://wampwebsite.com/folder1

because I have the website in
c:/wamp/www/folder1
but I want them to be able to access my site via
http://wempwebsite.com

and to do that I have to over write the index.php file for wamp configuration.

how can i move my wamp configuration index.php file to another folder and still make it accessible...
Is it possible.

because when I tried moving it to say folder2, then browsing to its location, i.e.
http://localhost/folder2
i get an error because the index file is in the wrong location...

thanks

hi guys I another problem which is I just realised I can only reach phpmyadmin when accessing WAMP Server Configuration via [localhost] which is 127.0.0.1 or via [http://127.0.0.1[/url] on its own.

but if I enter either my local ip 10.1.1.2 or my domain name, I can get to the WAMP Server Configuration but I cant get to phpmyadmin i still get the error
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /phpmyadmin/ on this server.

I tried adding my local IP to my host file also added my domain name to my host file and open port 80 thru my windows firewall and also created a rule for wamp to allow it through my windows firewall, but still no difference, I can only access phpmyadmin via 127.0.0.1...

I thought that might be the case with phpmyadmin, but I wasn't sure because on my LAMP I access phpmyadmin via my domain name, so i thought maybe I messed up...

use apaches vhost configuration file to set folder in www folder match a url

is this what I need to do, so that I can move the wamp index.php to another folder i.e. wamp/www/folder and make it still accessible, ill give it a try

thanks smiling smiley

u can change phpmyadmin in c:/wamp/alias/phpmyadmin.conf

change the Allow , Deny section like so

---------------------------------------------
FROM

<Directory "c:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin3.2.0.1/">
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
    AllowOverride all
        Order Deny,Allow
	Deny from all
	Allow from 127.0.0.1
</Directory>
TO

<Directory "c:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin3.2.0.1/">
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
    AllowOverride all
        Order Allow,Deny
        Allow from all
</Directory>
---------------------------------------------------
NOTE:- Now people can access it from web so secure with .htacess or password

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To enable vhost setup open C:\wamp\bin\apache\Apache2.2.11\conf\httpd.conf

Line 466

FROM
# Virtual hosts
#Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
TO
# Virtual hosts
Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To edit the setup open C:\wamp\bin\apache\Apache2.2.11\conf\extra\httpd-vhosts.conf

Basic Example is

----------------------------------------
NameVirtualHost *:80

<VirtualHost *:80>
    DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/folder1"
    ServerName www.folder1.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
    DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/folder1"
    ServerName folder1.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
    DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/folder2"
    ServerName folder2.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/folder2/subfolder"
    ServerName subfolder.folder2.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/folder2"
    ServerName www.folder2.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
    DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www"
    ServerName localhost
</VirtualHost>
----------------------------------------

You would need to delete everything and replace it with the code above for it to work. also note www. is a sub domain of folder1.com so it needs to be there too otherwise www.folder1.com wont work - its just the same as sub2.folder2.com

Hi guys thanks for the replies but I'm not sure exactly what all these replies are for, I don't want to be able to access phpmyadmin over the internet, I just wanted to make sure that my setup was done properly.
Because on my LAMP server I am able to access phpmyadmin via my IP, I'm actually happy it can only be accessed on the localhost.

also with the vhost tutorials all Im looking to do is to be able to move the WAMP index.php page to another folder inside my www directory, and still make it accessable, so that way I can have my website php files directly in the www folder so that when someone access my website, they just have to user the url
[www.mydomain.com]
instead of the url
[www.mydomain.com]

The 2 last post will come in handy i guess, when I want to host more then one site, but at the moment I am only going to host one site, and I want that site accessed via my domain without having to add the folder extension...

Thanks Heaps
Husskii

thats why u use vhosts. leave the index in the www folder and make a new folder in the www folder for your site...

then vhosts will allow you to make the folder be accessible from the url
