Wamp Apache fails to restart successfully when uncommenting ANY LoadModule in httpd.conf or wampserver systray

I am primarily interested in the vhost module and proxy related modules, but no matter what module I am attempting to activate via uncommenting the LoadModule line in httpd.conf, the Apache Server fails to restart properly.

Please help.

(Also, would the fact that I am running thin in a VM have any affect on this? I get wampserver up and running without adjusting the initial httpd.conf activated modules)

Thanks for the reply, and good resource, however, I am still unable to activate/load the proxy module and have apache startup successfully. The one bit that I really found interesting in the virtual host guide you presented as reference was the conf lines not having any whitespace before or after the line. Might this hold true accross the board for the main httpd.conf as well?

httpd.conf can have white space in front and does not affect it what so ever.

the issue at the end of the line is

White space is fine

EOL symbols are the issue.

Notepad++ is a great editor that can sho EOLS

actually, the problem is different editor would have different encoded script for blank space and not all people use the same editor; thus, the best is to avoid blank space in config file winking smiley

Just to provided some definitive results.... yfastud was dead on (I think)... I did 2 things prior to retesting the WampServer stack with Proxy Module enabled... 1) was Uninstall IIS from my WinXP OS, 2) was remove all preceeding whitespace on any line (aka.... NO Indents) and removed any inline comments and/or whitespace on the tail of any line in the httpd.conf file. Actually, let me clarify....No Indents for any lines not written as part of the source code base of the httpd.conf....perhaps this strengthens yfastud's point about different editors and different line endings.

Anyway, did those 2 things and Viola! ...."Great success!"

as i said- use Notepad ++ It shows you the difference between spaces and other symbols

EOL TAB etc etc

[notepad-plus.sourceforge.net]

But jsut to make it clear - Whitespace is absolutly fine in httpd.conf- in fact it comes with indented line in the download - its just how you go about editing it... using the wampserver menu is fine

doing it yourself in notepad or wordpad may not be
