localhost/* asks where to save file instead of opening in browser

I am running WAMP 2.4 on Windows 7.

recently, when trying to edit .htaccess, I accidentally created a file association with notepad. Now, when I try to open localhost or any other page on my local server, I get the message:

You have chosen to open:
which is: application/x-httpd-php
from: [localhost]
What should Firefox do with this file?
open with [browse]
save file

The weird part is, phpmyadmin works fine.

To try and fix this, I have restored my system to before the file association was changed, but it did not work even though .htaccess is no longer associated with notepad.

What do I have to do in order to fix this problem?

If you remove the .htaccess file does that stop this activity? If so the issue is with what you coded in the .htaccess file.
