PROBLEM: Using WAMP (for PHP) in VISTA - Cannot save NOTEPAD FILE to www folder.

Hi there

I recently embarked on APACHE /PHP / MySQL

using WAMP to download them.

LOCALHOST seems OK.

Then created a simple "hello world" statement....

.........................................................................................................................
<? php

echo "Hello World";

?>
.......................................................................................................................

When I try to save it in the www folder
as helloworld.php as
an 'ALL FILES' type,

The following message appears:

C:\Program Files\wamp\helloworld.php
You don't have permission to save in this location
Contact the Administrator to obtain permission.
Would you like to save in the Parcent Folder (Computer's name) instead ?

I am the Administrator for the system

Effectively, something is not allowing me to save the file.

I am not certain if this is a Wamp, Vista or PHP problem.

Anyone have an idea what is causing this ... and even better ...
What would be the solution ?

Regards from sunny Spain

Hi Steve

Thank you for the response.

It is certainly offering an alternative location, but I am not certain how I can point the php thing at it to bring it up on the browser.

Is it acceptable to store such programs elsewhere

they need to be in the www folder... save them to the desktop and then try and move them into the www folder . does it allow you to do this?

Just a thought. You said that you tried to save the file using the "Files of Type - All files" option. That is correct but from your original post it looks like you were trying to save the file in C:\Program Files\wamp\helloworld.php. Shouldn't WAMP beter be installed in the root of C: rather than in Program files? Your file should then be in the www folder within WAMP. It might make a difference.

We are all learning

Hi Steve

Many thanks once again.

I was in fact initially following the advice of PHP forDummies, and VISTA for Dummies (getting a real profile of me now ..??}, and both authors suggested, for easons unknown to avoid entering PHP to the C: drive directly.

However, it tends to be a better option sometimes to follow the practioner rather than the theorist. Will test the water therefore.

Just returned from UK ... pleased to be back in Espana ... despite the winds.

Gracias

Stew
