Trouble Importing Database Dump

I just installed wamp server a few days ago. I have been trying to import a database using command prompt. I keep getting this error:
mysqldump: Got error: 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' <10061> when trying to connect
I am only having connection errors when I try to import the database. I can access MySQL through phpmyadmin and have successfully created a database from scratch. The wampserver icon is white and all services are working perfectly from the browser.
I make backups of my live websites and import them locally on a regular basis using command prompt and have never had this problem before with xampp. Is there something I need to change in the configuration to connect to my databases through command prompt?

did you try to import through phpmyadmin?
