Webpage cannot be found

Hello,

I've installed Wamp for about a week now and it worked straight away, no problems. I hadn't really had time to use it until today, but when I try to go to [localhost] my browser (IE) says "Webpage cannot be found".

Since Wamp installation I've changed 2 things:
Installed Nod32 (know from previous posts they don't go together).
Previewed php-files in Expression Web 2 which made changes to the php.ini file.

I've tried everything, including shutting down Nod all the way and rebooting without starting up Nod. So I thought re-installing wud be the best. Removed Wamp, cleared register, re-installed Wamp and still I have the error saying "Webpage cannot be found".

Looking at other posts it seems the error log is usefull, so here it is (it's way longer but the same logs are coming over and over again with just different Child nr,,). There was no Php error log created.

I have the same problem with XP on SP2.

I had been using WAMP2a and it was working fine 3 months.

Today, when I tried, the same problem of Webpage Cannot be Found is encountered in IE7.
In firefox 3, it just turn-up a blank page.

Had uninstalled WAMP2a and deleted all directory c:\wamp.

Reinstalled WAMP2c.

Still the same problem.

Checked the file "host" and found no problem there. the line 127.0.0.1 localhost is there, with no other lines.

Looks to me like APACHE is not serving up the webpage.

Pinged localhost and no problem at all. the pinged returned as expected.

I need instructions on how to check that all services are running?

Problem solved for me... SKYPE is causing the problem.

1. Uninstalled SKYPE.
2. restart.
3. McAfee asked for apache to accept requests for internet connections
4. Said yes
5. start WAMP2
6. webpage loads properly.

fex,

Start wamp but do not open your browser.

To find out if the basic services are started...

Go to Start > Run > Type in :services.msc

Scroll down the list, you should see wampapache and wampmsqld with a status of 'Started'

Note: even if you disable nod32 using the tray icon the program still runs in the background.
I suggest you get a program like Codestff Starter (freeware) which will allow you to view and terminate any running task, service or process.

To try and force localhost to open in a browser here is my best suggestion.
1.Download and install Opera
2.Open /wamp/wampmanager.conf in a plain text editor
3.Edit the main section, navigator line 6 as shown below:

[main]
language = english
status = "offline"
wampserverVersion = 2.0
wampserverLastKnown = 2.0
installDir = c:/wamp
navigator = C:\Program Files\Opera 9.5 \opera.exe
defaultLanguage = english

I mention this because Opera is much more forgiving when negotiating with localhost than IE.
(IE's security zone for local machine can get whacked for no apparent reason)
Hope this helps a little...

Best regards,

Paul

Hi There,
I have just installed Wampserver version 2, it is a new installation on windows xp and I am very green with this software. When I run the software, the icon changes from Red to yellow and the small bar is 2/3 rds of the way around the curve so I suspect it is not totally working?? When I select localhost it prompts me for a password, but then displays website cannot be found. I can ping the server 170.0.0.1 ok when I test port 80 in apache it says microsoft is using the port. I cannot get the webpage to show the page shown in the attached link [dev.joomla.org]

Any assistance would be appreciated. I am trying to run Joomla

sounds like u have another server installed, try change apache to port 81 and then u use http:/ /localhost:81 in ur broswer

to change it . open httpd.conf in c:/wamp/bin/apache/apcahe2.2.8/conf and change

Listen 80

to

Listen 81

then restart wamp

i dont recommend leaving it on 81 , its just to test it

Thanks Steve,
Tthis did not change the menu item, but came back with "port 80 not actually used" and prompts for me to exit.

pappathan,

I've downloaded and installed Opera succesfully. I started my WampServer and tried browsing to localhost, which works. Is it then still necessay to change these: ??

[main]
language = english
status = "offline"
wampserverVersion = 2.0
wampserverLastKnown = 2.0
installDir = c:/wamp
navigator = C:\Program Files\Opera 9.5 \opera.exe
defaultLanguage = english

Regards

EDIT: I have a php login system on my website. By adding <? include("protection.php"winking smiley; ?> in my webpage it ensures my webpage is protected. So if you go to a page wich has got the previous line of code in it, the login-page instead should pop up. This happens on the web, but not when viewing my website with Wamp. Is this a bad setup of my php or something else?? I'm still new to this Wamp so smiling smiley
