Problems with Wamp on Vista

The OS is Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.

The WAMP Icon is three quarters yellow with a lock showing it as offline.

local host gives me a blank page in Firefox.

I've never installed another package like Triad.

There are no error logs for PHP or Apache. MySQL is running in tasks.

What am I missing please?

change the port apache is running on to see if it will start, open c:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.2.8/conf open httpd.conf

Change

Listen 80

To

Listen 81

Then save and restart
In browser goto ht tp;//localhost:81

That did it. I'm guessing this is just something to do with my router?

no, its not the router. Possibly something else using port 80 on pc. Skype? Firewalls? Anti virus programs? Or u many have microdoft iis as it comes with some version. It is a server itself. Ul need to disable it if u have it.

Yes, I did have Skype running, Windows Firewall is off and I'm using Avira Anti-virus.

Setup Skype to use different port so you can use both Skype and wamp.

Setup skype using different port as follows File -> Options -> Connection -> Uncheck "Use port 80 as an alternative for..."

Even disable nod32 is still no help, so you have to uninstall and reinstall it after install wamp; however, when it's auto update, it might stop wamp again in future

I have the same problem, MySQL is running but apache is not. I don't have Skype or anything other that should interfere. I've tried to disable Windows Firewall and I'm not using any anti-virus software yet. If I test port 80 through Wamp it says "Your port 80 is not actually used".

In Vista Event Viewer I have error messages saying (translated from Swedish) that "The service wampapache has been cancelled with the service specific error 1."

I also receive this message when trying to put the service online (as I've seen others get too) "Could not execute menu item (internal error) [Exception] Could not perform service action. The service has not been started".

Doubtful, as I've also tried Wamp 5 beside Wamp Server 2c.

EDIT: Tried another installer 2b, with the same result.

Did you uninstall old one before installing new on? If yes, there must be something that prevents wamp to run properly, so you have to figure out since we can't not see what you have in your system :-(

I've uninstalled every version before installing the new one. I've also searched the registry and deleted everything associated with Wamp.

EDIT:
Also found this message in Event Viewer:
The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> httpd.exe: Could not open configuration file bin/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot find the path.

Does that say anything?

EDIT 2:
Solved the problem by re-installing it for the 20th time, but this time in C:\Wamp compared to C:\Program\Wamp (Which Vista sometimes call Program Files, haven't got a hang of this yet) earlier.

Step 4

On the Destination Location page (wamp4.jpg), you theory can setup WAMPSERVER in any directory, but I suggest you should avoid the folder that has spaces between words, and better if accepting the default C:\wamp
That's the reason why in my instruction guide, I've always remind users not to install wamp in folder that has space in the name ;-)

I know, but I didn't realize at first that C:\Program actually is C:\Program Files in Vista (even though I specifically wrote C:\Program\Wamp when installing, not using any spaces). Must be the stupidest thing by Microsoft to mix up those two. Why do they do that?

Anyway, thanks for all the help!
