PHP won't connect to MySQL?

Just installed WAMP and everything seems to be fine except PHP won't recognise MySQL at all.
The MySQL service is running, I can connec to it thorugh the MYSQL Console option in the WAMP menu and add a database and table, but on my localhost page the MySQL version is blank.
phpinfo isn't showing anything about Mysql and PHPMyAdmin won't work either - any ideas?

start wamp if it is not already started.
click on php_mysql and make sure their is a small triangle next to it to get to that menu:
left click on the wamp tray icon menu -> php settings -> php extensions -> php_mysql
