Services start on install,...can't start them again?

Hi,

I have no idea what's going on here. I can install WAMP, and then it shows that all services are running. If I exit and then restart,..I am unable to start the services. I tried re-installing and choosing to start automatically but the same issue occurs. I went into services.msc and it shows that wampapache and wampmysqld are started, but the icon still shows "none of two services running". Port 80 is available.
Can anybody tell me which windows services are required for WAMP that I might have disabled?
Also,..my apache error log shows this: ("MY IP" is my actual IP address)...

"[Mon Jan 08 12:51:37 2007] [error] [client "MY IP"] client denied by server configuration: C:/wamp/www/"

Thanks for any help. I'm baffled.

Based on this info, seem like you already edited config file or so that you didn't post here

Check my old post here for the idea

Hi,

Thank you very much for the response.

You're correct, I did edit my config file at one point while troubleshooting. I'm sorry that I didn't mention it but I've tried every resolution I could find on this forum and am losing my place. The bottom line is that if I uninstall everything and then re-install; it will work fine immediately after Windows installs,..and then I can no longer start the services again once I stop them. I'd been through the link you posted prior to me posting here, but I don't see where it addresses my particular issue.

I'd used WAMP flawlessly for years before I formatted my drive and installed Vista. Could that have something to do with it?

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Vista? Some people success but most have problem, even me have problem once in a while. BTW, Vista comes w/ defender, kind of firewall, so did you enable port 80 in it yet?

Thank again,

I enabled wamp throught the Windows firewall but I couldn't find where to allow a port in Defender's settings so I temporarily disabled them both. I still have the same issue. It's so strange that it works great right after the install. If I were to just install WAMP every time that I needed to use it I would be fine.
My only guess is that it might have to do with some default Windows services that I've disabled which WAMP may need. Can you by chance tell me which Windows services Wamp is dependant upon?

Thanks again!

Oh well, after having problem here and there w/ Vista rc1 and even rc2, I reformated hd and put back XP Pro and still waiting for my free commercial version of Vista and Office 07 as I've got from here

Therefore, I'm not really sure what services they should be. Anyway, did you try to enable them all? Or... he... he.... ;-) you might want to reformat hd and reinstall it again. Sorry for not much help.

You've been a great help, I really appreciate it. smiling smiley

Well I can't bring myself to formatting again. I've gone through it three times this past two weeks and right now I have everything working like a champ except for "guess who". I'll try a clean boot and a few other desperate attempts and let you know how I do.

I'm thinking it may also have something to do with Vista's permissions.

Thanks again!

Mention about "devil", do you log in as administrator? Remember it doesn't work if you log in your windows w/ different ID from the one that install wamp.

Well well, speak of the devil again! Congratulations, now hurry up and get that beast installed so you can tell me what I'm doing wrong! hehe

Well, I made a little progress. Actually I installed WAMPP and was able to get everything to work, but after using WAMP for so long I missed it's user-friendliness so I gave it another shot. I uninstalled them both and did a search for wamp and wampp in the registry and removed any references. I then re-enabled some services that I'd disabled and presto! Apache is now working. My only problem now is that I can't get the mysql service to start. If I try to start wampmysqld manually using services.msc it just tells me "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly". I've tried to uninstall and re-install the service but no luck. Does that one ring a bell?

Ahoy matey!

Well,..I got it to go, the end resolution was to take a backup of my old C:\wamp folder and replace the current. I then reinstalled the services and that did the trick.

Thank you VERY much for seeing it through. Have fun with Vista!
(build 6000 btw)

Had the same problem. Services were running but not showing up in the systems tray. Turns out IE7 were fucking up it up. I am now back to IE6 until a fix turns up.

ETA: I'm on XP home SP2.

Yo guys

Ive had the same problem with my vista and wamp but i seem to have fixed it.

First of you can set it to run as administrator to run it automatically by right clicking on wampserver.exe and in the compatablity tab tick run as administrator.
For me this fixed apache but mysql still wouldnt work.

Second for MySQL i stumbled accross the solution of going into the wamp folder navigating to mysql then to data and deleting
ib_logfile0
ib_logfile1
and then tried running the service again and it worked

Hope this helps some people
