odbc driver for mysql

i edited the password for mysql
in
phpmyadmin admin privleges
php.ini
C:\wamp\phpmyadmin\config.inc.php.
so now the password is set when i open phpmyadmin i don't get the red warning
i am trying to connect from excel to mysql
when i go to windows data sources under tab drivers
i find mysql odbc driver 3.51 driver is on the list
it does'nt connect, is this wamp related ?
